Several times a year the owners of WINGS OVER KAUFMAN invite the children of the shelter out for hamburgers and wings with all the trimmings. Sam and Mike Lalumia and their family have always taken a personal interest in the youth at the shelter. Their many unseen efforts and generosity is always appreciated by the Norville center staff. The children however like the lunches and occasional dinners offered by Sam and Mike. They treat each youth special, and make sure no one leaves unhappy.
One of the goals of the Norville Center is to give the children some learning experiences, like going out to dinner. Most of us take an outing to eat at a restaurant for granted, but many of the youth that come into our care have never been out to eat. A large percentage of the children have never been to a movie theater or any kind of fun recreation that most of us assume every one has experienced. When we have the opportunity to provide a child with new experiences, we are expanding their social skills. Many times when a child goes into care they have some very embarrassing moments with their new foster family due to lack of basic social knowledge. A simple trip for a burger and fries can become a disaster, just from having to deal with a menu.
Once again we thank the Angels of WINGS OVER KAUFMAN for a chance to have some fun and delicious learning time.
